Kiera McCabe, Founder
I am a first-generation farmer dedicated to growing traditional foods that nourish and sustain our community. As a beginner farmer with three years of hands-on field experience, my work is deeply rooted in who I am and where I come from.
My clans are táchii'nii nishłį, bilagáana bashíshchíín, hashk'aan hadzohí dashicheii, bilagáana dashinálí.
I recently graduated from Fort Lewis College with a degree in Sociology and Human Services, alongside minors in Business Administration and Native American & Indigenous Studies. To deepen my commitment to the land, I also earned a certificate in Regenerative Food Systems. A massive turning point in my journey was participating in the 2024 Bidii Baby Foods Farmer-in-Rezidence program. This was an incredible opportunity that allowed me to learn, grow, and build the foundation for my own farming operation.
Most recently, I was honored to be recognized by the State of New Mexico with the 2026 'Growing the Future' award. For me, this recognition is a reminder of why this work matters: it’s about more than just growing food; it’s about community, continuity, and care.
My Story
I grew up as a military child, constantly moving across the country and adapting to many new places. It wasn't until I arrived at Fort Lewis College that I truly discovered my connection to the land through farming. Drawn to the opportunity to learn the foundations of agriculture at the Old Fort, I found joy and empowerment in growing food and learning to be self-sufficient. Inspired by my family's legacy and following in my great-grandfather's footsteps, I set my heart on returning to the Navajo Nation to farm on tribal land. I reached out to Bidii Baby Foods LLC. I was accepted into their Farmer in Rezidence Program, where I gained the knowledge and mentorship needed to launch my own farming operation. Now, I am on a mission to create nourishing, on-the-go snacks made with traditional corn. These snacks are designed for college students, blue-collar workers, athletes, children, and anyone leading a busy life. Through my work, I am not only honoring my roots but also sharing the power of Indigenous foods with the world.
